2.75☆ rounded up.The bones of this story was ok but the meat and potatoes were seriously lacking. It felt way to preachy about color lines, gangs, and gentrification. I was pissed when the MC Callen asked Sunny straight out if he was the father and she said no. That's no go for me. This book was a good way to kill time at a function I didn't want to be at. BTW this book ends at 42% then you get another story. Not sure why authors are doing that now.

This is the love journey of Sunny and Callan. these to meet under unfortunate circumstances. Sunny is a schoolteacher living and working in the inner-city. She also happens to be working at the school that she attended when she was in grade school it is a pleasure for her to work there and help the students because of course she has a unique‘s perspective because of her association with the neighborhood. Her name sunny represents her outlook on life and that of her children (student s) that she teaches however working in the inner-city there’s always a cloud and this cloud is in the form of drugs violence and still having to produce well-rounded children. Not an easy task! Sunny takes her job very personally specifically she takes one girl in her class Rosa under her wing because she notices that Rosa is struggling not because she doesn’t have the ability because of a home life she has a mother who is never home she’s dating the drug kingpin and her son is left to take care of Rosa and he’s not doing a good job at all. She confronts roses older brother and later learns thatI’m so happy that I put this book in my rotation!! 5 stars.

OkayThe story starts out good and believable but then ventures into an unreal fairytale. Too much preaching about gentrification and gangs for my taste.

A quick and easy read. Sunny and Callan are content in their lives or so they think. They meet when he comes to her rescue. The instant attraction leads to a one night stand, both hoping for more. Callan is a workaholic with an ex who won’t go away. Sunny teaches in her old neighborhood, hoping to show the students there is a way out while dodging the dangers that lurk. Not hearing from Callan, Sunny decides that night had only mattered to her. Callan’s work and his ex-girlfriend help the missed opportunities that could have lead to more than a one night stand. A lie and a secret must be overcome for trust to be gained and take them from that one special night to a happy ever after.

I experienced the breadth of emotions reading this story! The struggles of gentrification and its affect on the original people of a neighborhood and then those who have "made it" but want to stay and continue to give back. Callan and Sunny struggle each in their own ways to reconcile their roles in their old neighborhood. This struggle is associated with them trying to also forge a relationship with forces against them. For some reason, that I cannot pinpoint, I struggled with the beginning of this story, but once I got into it, I loved it.

OkayFirst book I have read by this author. Both books were okay. I enjoyed the second book more, the heroine has lost her first husband, she is trying to raise there son and get her own bakery started. Her husband's best friend has just retired from the military he was there for her and her son when her husband died. He comes home to fine his wife has moved on without him so he turn to his best friend's family so that he won't feel so all alone. Divorce is in the works and the hero feels he has finally met the woman that is right for him.

This is Callan and Sunny's story. Sunny is a teacher in the inter-city and Callan is a wealthy tycoon that saves her from a really bad situation in the book. They start a relationship but people close to them try to destroy their relationship. My issue is the book moved to quickly I believe the author needed more time to build up to their relationship and the love they have between them. I didn't feel the connection between and some parts of the book I was surprised that it was further along then I thought it should have been.

Mildly SmittenFor some reason I could not see a chemistry and strong connection between the hero and heroine. The fact that the hero used to be the heroines dead husbands best friend added to my disconnect. The story was mildly sexy, with a lot of talking. 3.9 Stars for a good effort.

Complete waste of my time.....but I'm not a quitter. This book had no character development and it was all over the place. To say that this girl grew in "the hood" and was in the system she wasn't too street smart. I wasted two hours of my life reading this book. I only finished because I'm not a quitter, but I did skip over some parts. *deep sigh

Not BadThis was not a bad story. I was a little upset with the heroine. She wanted to have things both ways. She wanted to be well off and live the everyday life all at the same time. But it wasn't that bad

A Great ReadI was hooked on this book from the first paragraph. The plot was excellent and something you rarely read in most romance novels --- a passion for not only each other, but a passion to help others as well. I throughly enjoyed the story and would love to see a sequel.
